Dock and Lake Päijänne

A pioneer in responsible tourism

You meet the magical atmosphere of Lake Päijänne, the deepest lake in our country. Breathe the cleanest air in the world in the silence of the wild forest. We created a sustainable paradise for this beauty. Already in 2019 Nukula was awarded the prestigious international Green Key Environmental Certificate for its extensive and long-term environmental work. Experience the responsibility of sustainable tourism as concrete ecological, sosio-cultural, and economic actions in Jyväskylä region in Central Finland. Soon, our sustainable path was awarded by Visit Finland with STF label.

We care about our environment

The values of Nukula are joy, respect for one another and Nature, truthfulness, presence in the now, a strong sense for ethics, and sustainability. We have ecological dry toilets that do not consume water, we emphasize recycling, and respect the history and hospitality of our old buildings. We enjoy the Silence, we celebrate the energy of the forest, and we embrace the lack of human generated noise in Nukula.

Nukula is great place for business too

Nukula is the ideal venue for one‐to‐one business meetings, HR workshops, presentations and think tank sessions that facilitate sustainable, long term relationships. Nestled in the seclusion of Lake Päijänne, the natural environment allows for the maximum level of interaction, capable of addressing the most delicate of matters, observing Chatham House Rule, or to engage in fun team building exercises. Nukula provides the perfect blend of business facilities and outdoor adventure for your next corporate retreat. And all this is done based on the principles of sustainable tourism!

Our values

We respect everything which is alive and with many eyes lifeless too. Nature, from the smallest creature and a rock’s tiny fragment to the globe and the wide universe, is target of our permanent respect.

A squirrel lives a squirrel’s life. It wouldn’t cook a porridge for its “children” although in some fairy tale can be told so. We should live here a life of human beings and we shouldn’t try to be anyone else who we really are. On our net pages we want to give you a real picture of ourselves and of our company too. We don’t manipulate out photos and we tell things in that way, what they really are by us. We are true!

The joy, including many wonderful things as happiness, good food, everyday bread, creativity, fanny plays (games), and snowball fight, keeps our life and our attitude towards the people we meet. The joy includes misfortunes too, but they are only opportunities to learn and develop ourselves. In their own way they bring joy too.

The attendance means to us awaking in the moment; follow a cat and take a look, how it keeps an eye on a mousehole; the cat lives right now in that moment and can notice a mouse immediately when it appears. The attendance does not mean involve ourselves deeply in our thoughts. It means to be here and now and the possibility to observe our environment as such.

The ecological responsibility or sustainability comes true the most strongly by us. In every room we have ecological, water saving dry toilets, and we classify, reuse or recycle all waste. In addition, we treasure the culture and that is why we renovate old buildings by respecting our forefathers’ culture. Our stories are based on the history of our place and our farm. We will get for example berries and fruits from our garden and from our wild forest, vegetables from our field, mushrooms from the forest, and fish from Lake Päijänne. This is the best economical sustainability. We certainly prefer sustainable tourism!

The guests leave Nukula at least one thought richer about themselves than when they came to Nukula.

“What a wonderful experience, to have so many Finnish treats in one day! Thank you for the incredible home made food, comfortable, cozy accommodation, and the best sauna I have had so far. The rocks at the shore to me was like being in a Lord of the Rings moment. The place is a magical gem in the deep Finnish forest and I wish you many appreciative guests in the future.”

“A magical place, I wish to come back when the flowers are blooming. We visited in mid-May when there was still some snow visible. Berries from the local garden for the breakfast! Thank you for this awesome place we had the chance to stay!”
